Titanium-Boron alloy Ti-SB62 Titanium Ti-SB62 is a newly developed Titanium-Boron alloy. Ti-SB62 is made via conventional wrought processing route. During an In-Situ process TiB (Titanium-Boride) is formed. The TiB phase is responsible for the unique properties of this Titanium-Boron alloy. Because of this process no voids or defects are found like. At C only % boron dissolves in γ-Fe. Uses. Boron alloy steels include carbon, low alloy including HSLA, carbon-manganese and tool steels. Because of boron's high neutron absorption boron is added to stainless steels used in the nuclear industry - up to 4% but more typically to 1 %. Commercially Pure (CP) Titanium and Titanium alloys offer a unique combination of strength, weight and corrosion resistance. Developed in the s for defense and aeronautical applications, Titanium alloys provide a high strength-to-weight ratio, while bridging the gap between the properties of steel and aluminum. Over the years, increased production has lowered costs for these materials. Pure titanium has been used for orthopedic and dental implants, however it is mostly applied as an alloy with iron, aluminum, vanadium, and/or molybdenum among others. Titanium alloys are generally categorized into four main types: alpha alloys, near-alpha alloys, alpha & beta alloys, and beta alloys.

Thus, in a program to develop Ti alloys with non-deformable hard phases, we are reporting the effect of carbon and boron additions on microstructure and mechanical properties of β Ti alloy, Ti The alloy has been selected for two reasons: (1) the alloy is well studied and understood, and (2) it is widely used for airframe applications [12 Cited by: Beta-solidifying TiAl alloys have attracted increasing attention since and the recently developed beta-gamma and TNM alloys contains about % boron [14,15].

Alloys of the two families were designed as wrought alloys but fine starting microstructures are essential for thermomechanical processing.

Hence, % B was added to. Introduction. Beta titanium alloys have been extensively used for aerospace structural applications. It is primarily because of three attributes: (1) relatively lower density as compared to steels and nickel base super alloy, (2) reasonable balance of modulus, strength, ductility and fracture toughness, and (3) excellent corrosion resistance.

Additionally, the alloy can be heat treated Cited by: Abstract: Beta titanium alloys are capable of providing a lower modulus of elasticity, enhanced corrosion resistance, improved fabrication response, and acceptable biocompatibility when compared to established titanium alloys.

The effect of trace boron additions to titanium alloys on grain refinement has been systemati-cally evaluated, and the results are summarized in Fig. Macrographs recorded on transverse sec-tions of Ti and TiB ingots are shown in Fig. 4a and 4b, which illustrate the dramatic grain.

Titanium & its Alloys Pure Titanium Pure titanium melts at C and has a density of gcm−3. It should therefore be ideal for use in components which operate at el-evated temperatures, especially where large strength to weight ratios are required.

Titanium can catch fire and cause severe damage in. The major titanium alloy which is the workhorse of the industry is the titanium-aluminum-vanadium alloy Ti-6Al-4V which is priced at a factor of or 2 over commercially pure titanium. The relatively small size of the titanium industry and the considerable use of alloying metals can leave the industry vulnerable to price changes.

An alpha-beta titanium alloy comprises, in weight percentages: an aluminum equivalency in the range of to ; a molybdenum equivalency in the range of 0 to ; to cobalt; and titanium. In certain embodiments, the alpha-beta titanium alloy exhibits a cold working reduction ductility limit of at least 25%, a yield strength of at least KSI ( MPa), and a percent elongation.

The control of alpha (α) and beta (ß) phases through alloying additions and thermomechanical processing is the basis for the titanium alloys used by industry today. It is also the primary method for classifying titanium alloys.

Titanium alloys are categorized as either alpha (α) alloys, beta (ß) alloys, or alpha+beta (α+ß) alloys. Unalloyed, commercially pure titanium has a tensile strength ranging from to MPa, and this strength is controlled primarily through oxygen content and iron content.

The higher the oxygen and iron content, the higher the strength. Commcercially alloyed titanium grades can range from a tensile strength as low as MPa (such as Ti-3AV) to a tensile strength as high as MPa (e.
